Promoting the Right to Food

In partnership with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, KEPHRA is spearheading the Promoting the Right to Food Project in 19 counties. Anchored in Article 43(1)(c) of the 2010 Constitution, this initiative ensures every Kenyan has access to adequate and acceptable food.

Since 2022, our efforts have led to the adoption of food policies in Murang’a and Kisii counties, with Murang’a going further to enact the Food Security and Nutrition Bill (2025). Progress is underway in Busia and Trans Nzoia counties, with more county legislations in development. This project is redefining food security as a human right, not just a development goal.
