Advancing Human Rights through Law and Policy

From its inception, KEPHRA has sought to strengthen Kenya’s human rights landscape through progressive legislation. Our members have initiated and supported key frameworks including:

The Protection Against Domestic Violence Act (2015), which provided a legal backbone for survivors of abuse..

The Refugees Bill (2016), advancing the rights of displaced communities.

The Public Benefits Organizations (Amendment) Bill (2016), enhancing the space for civil society to thrive.

Beyond legislation, KEPHRA has engaged in bold citizen-led advocacy. The Green Amendment Campaign (2019) mobilized Kenyans to push for constitutional compliance with the two-thirds gender rule, using a popular initiative to bridge the gap between law and lived equality.
